Jami Lockett is a contemporary artist from Newark, NJ, who blends multiple genres of music under one form, R&B. His style hails from the foundations of gospel, where he grew up singing in church as one of his many formal trainings, with an addition to his theater background and fascination with other Pop/Folk inspirations such as WHAM!, Norah Jones, and John Mayer, to name a few.

In his exploration of music, visual creativity, and style, he discovered a natural ability to blend multiple genres, crafting a musical narrative that tells the stories of his life, which can only be described as “testimonial” in the context of love, social commentary, and life. His lyricism matches his personal witty characteristics, often forming his songs into powerful anthems. Songs such as “Elementary” convey the message of avoiding childish dating experiences. “Dine + Dash,” which speaks of a broken heart finally finding the freedom to let go and coming to terms with being used for sexual, emotional, and mental gain. “WAITING” cements its place as a ballad that pulls at the heartstrings of those who yearn over a difficult breakup. July 2025 marked a truly special career milestone. Jami’s debut mixtape titled “TASTE VOL. I” was released to the world and chronologically shows the ups & downs of his 20s navigating in the world of oppression, growing and failed relationships, and the journey of self-discovery all in one.

Jami’s overall message has always been to choose yourself first. Whether he’s telling you in song or conversation, he also informs his audience that life is too short to waste time on negative experiences. His music has always been his personal diary to the world, sharing out details of his story and some that he happened to cross paths with along the way. On stage, whether acoustic or accompanied by a backing band, he is a cautionary and fiery performer who bares his all. Blending his performance style from the likes of greats like Beyoncé and Sylvester, Jami pours his love for performing into his vocal showcase, dance, and live arrangements.
